These Russian Tea Cakes (also called Mexican Wedding Cakes) are one of my mom's favorites. They are yummy, bite size and super easy to make.
Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup finely chopped nuts
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400.
Thoroughly mix butter, sugar, and vanilla. Work in the flour, salt, and nuts until the dough holds together.
Shape into 1 inch balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until set but not brown.
While the cookies are still warm, roll in confectioners sugar. Allow to cool and then roll in sugar again.

Your tea cakes look lovely! I make them as well and actually call them Viennese Crescents.. isn't it funny how one cookie can have so many names? Have a wonderful holiday!
These look wonderful. 1 question: is that the cake plate from Williams-Sonoma? If so, I have been looking at getting one but don't know which size to get, what would you suggest?

@anniebakes Annie - my mom got it at TJMaxx and I don't think that it is originally from WS. This one is definitely too small for a cake. It is probably about 6" wide.
@Evan @swEEts Ha! That is funny. It's also weird that they all reference totally different countries.
Hi Christina, I love Russian Tea Cakes! My mom is nearly 80 and still makes them for us for Christmas! Looking forward to trying more of your recipes in 2011. Have a wonderful Christmas!

I have a recipe similar to this that is a family favorite in our house. These cookies are absolutely delicious and I'm loving your take on them!
Have a wonderful Christmas holiday!
My mother makes these every Christmas, it's a family tradition started from our grandparents. :)
My mom always makes them into half-moon shapes, then mixes red and green sprinkles into the powdered sugar, which are very easy to eat and pretty.
@The Corner Girl I love the idea of using red and green sprinkles!
